The 11th International Karl Davidov Cello Competition
Overview
The 11th International Karl Davidov Cello Competition will be held from April 27 till May 3, in Kuldiga, Latvia. The Competition accepts young cellists and students of cello in four age groups, until 29 years old. The Competition takes place in beautiful town of Kuldiga, Latvia, which is the birth place of famous cellist, composer and professor – Karl Davidov (1838 – 1889). All three rounds of the Competition are held in Ernests Vigners Kuldiga Music School. The Competition will be judged by international Jury that consists of five members: Head of the Jury and founder of the Competition, Professor at Jazeps Vitols Music Academy of Latvia – Elleonora Teteleca, Professor at Guildhall School of Music and Drama – Stefan Popov, Head of Strings at Chetham’s School of Music and Professor at the Royal Northern College of Music – Nicholas Joness, Principal Cellist at London Philharmonic Orchestra – Kristina Blaumane, Principal Cellist at Brussels Philharmonic Orchestra – Kristaps Bergs.
All participants of the Competition participate in Gala concert and Laureates have the opportunity to perform together with symphony orchestra. There are free masterclasses for all participants, and Laureates receive money prizes in several categories.
The competition is organized to commemorate the memory of Karl Davidov and promote young cellists on their professional development.
